Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

Steam erupts from Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The largest hot spring in the United States, it’s also the world’s third largest, with a diameter of 90m, and a depth of some 50m. The colours are thanks to pigmented bacteria growing in the microbial mats that surround the spring water, which is full of minerals.
