The solar energy tower at THEMIS

The THEMIS experimental solar power tower neae the town of Targassonne, in the department of Pyrénées-Orientales, south of France. Used first between 1983 and 1986, the plant went into hibernation for two decades, but is currently being 'rehabilitated' into a modern solar energy research facility. The new project, PEGASE, involves electricity generation using a gas turbine powered by solar energy. PEGASE aims to develop and test a prototype high-efficiency solar power plant, based on a hybrid cycle high temperature gas, a pressurized airsolar receiver and a gas turbine 2 MWel on the site of the THEMIS central tower.
