The Algiers in, in the fishing village of Baltimore, West Cork, Ireland. The name of the bar refers to the The Sack of Baltimore which took place on June 20, 1631, when the village was attacked by North African pirates from the North African Barbary Coast, and 108 English settlers taken away as slaves. This, the biggest attack of North African pirates on either Ireland or Britain, was led by Dutch captain turned pirate, Jan Janszoon van Haarlem, also known as Murad Reis the Younger. Murad was brough to the village by a fishing boat captain called Hackett, in exchange for his freedom. Hackett was later hanged for his conspiracy.
