Newgrange Megalithic Monument, Co. Meath, Ireland
Solstice sunlight hitting the outside of Newgrange, which is arranged a giant annual clock, marking out the shortest day of the year. ....This quartz and granite face is a modern reconstruction - using the original materials - of how Newgrange must have looked 5,000 years ago. The quartz came from about 60km south, while the granite rocks came from farther north. The stones on the bottom weigh between 1 and 10 tonnes - and were put here 5,000 years ago!........
