Greenland flag mural on apartment block P , Nuuk, Greenland
Greenland flag mural on apartment block P, Nuuk, Greenland. Block P is the largest apartment blog in downtown Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. More than 1% of Greenland's 57,000 population reportedly live in this building. On the end is the Greenland flag. This image was made just two days before the June 21st 2009 self-governance ceremony, in which Denmark handed over more power to the local population. Block P was built by the Danish government in the 1960s to modernize and urbanize the Greenlandic infrastructure by moving people away from coastal settlements which were though to be "unprofitable, unhealthy and unmodern". The same could be said for these 'new' buildings. Block P was demolished in October 2012. Copyright 2009 Dave Walsh
