The Dragon Iceberg
Sleeping Dragon, Kangerdlugssuaq Fjord, East Greenland.
Limited edition Giclée Prints available - contact me for more details.
This iceberg is calved from Kangerdlussuaq glacier, the largest glacier on the east coast of Greenland's ice sheet and probably the world's fastest moving glacier. Kangerdlugssuaq tripled its speed between 2004 and 2005, and is now rapidly moving mass out of the middle of Greenland's ice sheet, in the form of icebergs. This has urgent implications for both the mass balance of the Greenland ice sheet, and for the rate of sea level rise globally.
Taken from the deck of the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise, during a 2009 expedition to investigate the effects of climate change in the Arctic.
