Raul Romeva speaks to a crowd during an Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) Placa Barcelona, Sant Cugat del Valles, Barcelona, Catalonia, five days before the December 21st regional elections. Romeva, who was Catalonia's foreign minister - and arguably still is - before Madrid’s application of Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, spent 32 days in prison following the October 27 2017 ratification of the October 1st independence referendum. Romeva, and other ministers were released from 'preventive detention’ on December 4th, while under investigation for rebellion and sedition. Madrid-born Romeva lives in Sant Cugat.
