Arctic Fox mother and cub, Ny-Alesund

Arctic Fox mother and cub, Ny-Alesund, Alopex lagopus, living under the "London Houses" , the official name of the Dutch research station at the international scientific research base at Ny-Alesund, Svalbard. The mother had lost her white winter coat in the preceding weeks. This is a wild animal, and the id-tags were placed on her ears by researchers. Some years ago, Dutch researchers had moved into the "London Houses" to observe barnacle geese that migrate annually from the Netherlands. Soon, however, they had a neighbour - the fox, which then proceeded to prey upon the study subjects.
