The Hook Lighthouse
Warning sign beside the Hook Lighthouse, Fethard on Sea, Wexford, Ireland is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, and has been in use since the 12th or 13th century. Although a fire beacon was operated here to warn shipping as early as the 5th century, it was with the arrival of the Normans in that the tower was built. The existing lighthouse incorporates the original Norman fortress structure.
