Two experimental solar installations in the Pyrenees, France. Run by the Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), PROcedes Materiaux et Energie Solaire (PROMES), using the Four Solaire solar furnace at Odeillo, is used for researching into solar power storage, nanotechnology and other work. THEMIS, in the nearby town of Targassonne, is a solar power plant, which was mothballed for two decades is now the site of PEGASE, to test the use of a solar heated gas turbine for making electricity.
